Harris and Wihak's "The Recognition of Non-Formal Education in Higher Education: Where Are We Now, and Are We Learning from Experience?"

PLA Inside Out

Abstract

In this essay, authors Harris and Wihak take up the timely issue of the relationships between open educational resources (OERs), massive open online courses (MOOCs) and other nonformal education opportunities with prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR). The essay helps us see how “the process of recognition” has a “positive effect on the quality” of the nonformal education, and thus on the status of individuals who have pursued their learning through these modes.
